Founded in 1989 by the Sayagyi  U Ba Khin Memorial Trust, the International Meditation Centre provides for the instruction and practice of Theravada Buddhist Meditation.  The Centre is a direct offspring of the International Meditation Centre Yangon, Myanmar and is guided by Mother Sayamagyi and Sayagyi U Chit Tin.

The focal point of the Centre is the Dhamma Yaung Chi Ceti (Light of the Dhamma Pagoda).

sunset.gif (80868 bytes)Ten day residential courses are held regularly, beginning on Friday evening and ending early Monday morning. The students who come to do courses at the Centre are from all walks of life, professions, religions, cultural backgrounds and countries.

Anyone who comes with an open mind can gain the necessary confidence in the technique and in himself or herself. Everyone can attain benefits which will be proportionate to the amount of balanced effort they make.

hall.gif (65875 bytes)Meditation courses are conducted in the Dhamma Hall. The daily schedule consists mainly of meditation, and two Dhamma talks when various aspects of the meditation, the tradition, and Theravada Buddhism are explained.

Students attending retreats are accommodated in rooms and dormitories, and men's and women's facilities are entirely separate. Vegetarian food is served; breakfast at 6.30 a.m., lunch the main meal of the day is served at 11 a.m., and a light tea at 5 p.m. is provided for those keeping only 5 precepts. 

plan.gif (47413 bytes)Ten acres of grounds, the rose gardens around the pagoda and the trees that surround the Centre provide a pleasant walking area for students wishing to take exercise. Student's are asked to contribute A$400 towards the cost of food and accommodation. There is no charge for the teaching.
